IMG_0420.jpgWR\46A excels in working with communities so transportation and other infrastructure investments add value in terms of livability, accessibility, and sustainability. Context-sensitive solutions are essential to preserve quality of life for residents and continued economic vitality.\n\nThe firm takes an interdisciplinary approach to developing and enhancing livable communities. WR\46A\47s transportation planners and engineers, urban designers, architects, and other professionals lend their expertise to project teams in solving a number of urban challenges: traffic congestion, community disinvestment, and insufficient emphasis on pedestrian and bicycle facilities. We have dealt with these issues in small, stand-alone projects, as well as components of comprehensive plans or larger planning studies.\n\nWR\46A has particular experience in Transportation Enhancements (TE). As defined at the Federal level, the TE program includes a wide variety of projects ranging from pedestrian and bicycle facilities and streetscapes to historic preservation. WR\46A\47s full-service capabilities allow the firm to support communities in development of all twelve activities eligible for Federal TE funding, from sidewalk networks and multi-use trails to streetscape improvements and adaptive reuse.Route 40 Multimodal ImprovementsRoute 40 Multimodal ImprovementsNew Castle County, DEtransPlan11IMG_0420.jpg22waterford rendering.jpg330 031.jpg44Appleby2.jpg55Appleby1.jpgWR\46A designed eight miles of pedestrian, bicycle, and transit improvements in the US 40 corridor in New Castle County, Delaware, with projects along Songsmith Drive, Wilton Boulevard, Appleby Road, Old Forge Road, Rivers End Drive, Taylor Drive, and Smalleys Dam Road. The firm worked with DelDOT and two stakeholder groups (the Pedestrian and Bicycle Task Forces) to identify needed multimodal improvements.\n\nEach project began with a public workshop to engage stakeholders in the design. WR\46A provided survey, concept, and final design services for each project. The firm also developed concept plans for improvements to 38 bus stops in the corridor.Catoctin Circle TrailCatoctin Circle TrailLeesburg, VAtransPlan61catcircle.jpgCatoctin Circle is a minor arterial roadway serving residential and commercial areas of Leesburg, Virginia. WR\46A designed improvements to the only remaining segment without pedestrian or bicycle facilities, alleviating safety concerns for school students and trail users. These improvements featured a new asphalt trail, curb and gutter, drainage, and crosswalks.\n\nThe Town specified that all permanent construction occur within the existing right of way, resulting in analysis of trail width and typical section alternatives. A tree survey evaluated the trail\47s impact on multiple trees located adjacent to the roadway. Only one small tree required removal due to construction.Philadelphia AvenuePhiladelphia Avenue ReconstructionOcean City, MDtransPlan711 - existing.jpg822 - proposed.jpgWR\46A provided engineering and construction-related services for reconstruction of Philadelphia Avenue in the Town of Ocean City, Maryland. The project contained 0.7 miles of urban roadway adjacent to the beginning of US 50. The project was a part of the Town\47s desire to upgrade underground utilities and improve aesthetics and safety at its southern entrance.\n\nThe project was completed under the State\47s Neighborhood Conservation Program and consisted of numerous design elements including roadway reconstruction, intersection improvements, curb and gutter reconstruction, pedestrian improvements including pavers and imprinted pavement accents, new storm drain system, utility and lighting relocations, signalization improvements and landscaping.
