Vivien T. Thomas Medical Arts Academy. Baltimore City Public Schools, Maryland.

The phased renovation of a 1970’s school resulted in the new Vivien T. Thomas Medical Arts Academy, which provides training for students wishing to embark on a career in the medical field.

With an emphasis on science and medical technology, the curriculum provided at Vivien T. Thomas Medical Arts Academy includes outreach programs with local medical institutions to teach students interested in the medical field. The former vocation shops were renovated to create 2,200 SF medical demonstration lab with adjoining classroom to allow hands-on instruction. All classrooms were renovated, administrative offices were relocated, a new media center constructed, cafeteria upgraded and new student rest rooms provided. The second phase included creation of two new 1,400 SF, 28-student science labs with zoned areas for instruction and experimentation.
